Having started out as a landscape painter, Weinstein turned his subject matter to water on the suggestion of his visual arts professor. Weinstein grew up in Rhode Island and as a surfer has always been drawn to water. Rather than depicting dramatic seascapes, Weinstein chooses to depict calm horizon lines and soothingly atmospheric panels reminiscent of Mark Rothko paintings. Weinstein also makes relief sculptures out of fiberglass and urethane resins which are also representations of the mesmerizing nature of water. Weinstein currently works and lives in California.
