Uzor’s paintings and drawings explore psychological spaces, with forms and figurative interpretations that are set against atmospheric grounds and a colorful visual lexicon. His earlier works investigated the displacement and journey African Migrants took through the Sahara Desert and Mediterranean Sea towards Europe as a result of political conflicts in the Sub-Saharan regions. For Uzor, who is himself also an immigrant in the United States, the notion of having a “home” while feeling “homeless” is a very personal one. His paintings offer a quasi-cinematic windows into architectural structures, forms and figures that appear in unrecognizable spaces, and reappear into newly invented sceneries. Like fleeting memories, the artist attempts to capture imagery of what once existed before they disappear into the ether. Uzor was born in the eastern part of Nigeria and hails from Imo state. The artist is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Drawing and Painting at the University of North Texas, where his also a Teaching Fellow. Uzor’s works are in many private collections in the United States, Europe and Africa.
